Another’s

O look at him,
O look at her,
Look at their weather,
They have each other,
They have the storms,
The rains, the things that
Fall, the things that fail,
Strings and chords and
Endless vibrations, they
Have an echo—they have
Love that doesn’t live inside
Of me—commitment I see it,
I see it in them but where is it
In me, this forgery, is this victory?
My nights have been spent trying
To dream from you, trying to wake
With a plan, with something to
Understand, on a Friday night I’ve
Put down the hype and all the bright
Lights, I don’t want another’s story
Or another’s love, my own I must
Have, I must live to tell of that
