The Message on 2 Cor. 1:20-22:
“Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.”
The free life in Christ is really the ‘focused on Christ’ life. Freedom comes from a consistent focus on things above(Col. 3:1-5). Depression and apathy will try to ruin our YES in Him but the abundant life will fight back with a YES. How do you know that you are depressed? If you have a big NO to everything then you are. However, the opposite is the response that we want. When the YES takes place their is still pain and risk and trial but their is also radical trust.
The other practical part is this. If you don’t have a YES instead of a NO then it also can be because you don”t have a vision for what to DO. Usually we all say, ‘my goal is just NOT to sin!’ However, that is not a plan for how to resist sin. We all need to replace negative with truth and darkness with light. All of us are called to not sin so it needs to be more specific than that. What is your YES?
