Late night musings #reflections
I’ve been stuck in various shadows of my own. Areas of helpless thoughts and consistent memories of never getting out. Not out of circumstances but out of feeling like the dark areas will only become a shadow and that shadow will follow me wherever I go. I believed in the “shadow of the Almighty, and the “shadow of His wing.” These are true images and pictures of the God we serve.
He is the light and hides Himself so we can find and pursue Him. He is the God of no turning or change. Scripture is poetic yet literal and yet futuristic, and yet here today, and yet unclear on the timing of our own shadows. We want light to win much faster than the consequences of darkness.
I am tempted to preach a message to myself that says a life of fear is a life of safety and no risk is worth the repercussions of heart break, or rejection in any relationship, but love gives fully and willingly.1 John 4:18 is the fear casting out darkness and love in all its force and power has no fear of shame or failure, guilt, sorrow or rejection.
Do you read the life of Peter walking on the water with Jesus, denying him and yet also unaware of his own future shadow?
Peter had crowds surrounding even his shadow in hopes of getting healed. You can speculate that his shadow didn’t heal anyone but isn’t it wonderful and mind blowing that someone’s reflection could heal those in need. Yes, this is Acts 5 and yes, Paul has his fair share of similar experience, but it is the power of Jesus who took on the cross so that we don’t have to bear our own shadows.
Your life is just getting started. Your shadow is a soon and coming Kingdom that lives within you. Your reflection of a true faith will have others follow you as you follow Him. I am reminded of this verse: James 1:17, ” Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows..”
